Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Robert

Robert has volunteered at the Curry Senior Center, within Project Open Hand’s Community Nutrition Program, for over 7 years! With his kind nature, Robert creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere for our senior clients. Not only does he assist with bussing tables and cleaning the kitchen and equipment used for lunch service, he also takes the time to sit down and enjoy a meal with our clients. Everyone enjoys having Robert around!

Q&A WITH ROBERT

 

Q: WHY WOULD YOU RECOMMEND VOLUNTEERING AT PROJECT OPEN HAND?

A: It’s always good to give back to people who are in need.  Someday I might be in that position where I may be in need.  You cannot beat the feeling of doing something for someone else.  

Q: IF YOU WERE ON A DESERTED ISLAND AND COULD ONLY HAVE ONE MEAL EVERY DAY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

A: Banana split but I shouldn’t say that.  I like so much stuff.  Pizza, because I like it a lot.  

Q: WHAT IS AN EXAMPLE OF A TIME WHEN YOU KNEW YOU WERE POSITIVELY IMPACTING OUR CLIENTS?

A: When the clients come up to me and say, “Thank you very much.  You’re doing a great job.  We really appreciate you being here.”  That’s it.  That’s when you know you’re making a difference.      

Q: WHAT SONG WOULD BE YOUR LIFE SOUNDTRACK AND WHY?

A: The Impossible Dream by Andy Williams.  It seems a lot of the things I do are impossible.  I’m 71.  I’m still alive, still in good health and in my right mind.
